Swift is a truly special 70ft traditional stern narrowboat, built by renowned boatbuilder Steve Hudson and professionally fitted out by Nigel Walklett, former foreman of Hudson Boats. Constructed in steel to a 10/6/4 specification, Swift represents an important chapter in Hudson Boat’s early history and offers a rare opportunity to own a vessel with genuine provenance and character. Notably, Swift was one of the very first Hudson boats to feature a Josher-style bow.
The engine room and boatman’s cabin, are housing the impressive Lister JP3 engine. The engine itself has a fascinating history, having originated from a concrete barge and subsequently undergoing a comprehensive rebuild by Nigel Walklett, with machining work carried out by respected Lister specialist Peter Thompson at the former PMC yard in Uxbridge.
Swift was proudly displayed by Steve Hudson at both the Nottingham and Braunston Boat Shows, helping to promote his growing business, before returning to Glascote for a full fit-out over a ten-month period by Nigel Walklett and Lynda Martin. Traditional roses and castles decoration complete her classic working-boat aesthetic. Having been built by Nigel Walklett for his personal use the vessel has made use of every hidden nook and cranny for storage.
Inside, Swift offers warm and practical accommodation with ash-lined cabin sides, sprayfoam insulation, and portholes throughout. She provides four berths, including a fixed double bed and additional berths within the boatman’s cabin. The walkthrough bathroom features a pump-out toilet, corner bath with shower over, and vanity basin, while the galley is well equipped with a Smev oven and grill, Thetford hob, Shoreline fridge, and top-loading washing machine.
Heating and hot water are well catered for via a Refleks diesel stove with back boiler, calorifier, immersion, and Paloma water heater, making Swift comfortable for year-round living. The electrical system includes 12v and 240v supplies, a Victron Multiplus inverter/charger, and an Electrolux 3.5kva Travel Power generator.
Swift is a narrowboat of rare heritage, mechanical interest, and timeless appeal — ideal for those seeking a traditional boat with an authentic story and craftsmanship at its core.

BUYERS & SELLERS
When you buy a boat from us you pay all monies in to our company clients trust account which means that the buyers and sellers money is protected. This is the same account that solicitors set up for house sales .This money does not belong to the company it belongs to the buyer until the sale is complete and then we pay the seller from the company clients trust account. We cannot release the money from the Clients Trust Account to the seller until the vessel has been accepted and handed over to the buyer because if there was a fault with the vessel and the buyer refused to accept it and wanted their money back we could not do this because the seller would of already had the money. This could become a very costly and messy problem for all parties.
This money never enters our company current account. This also means that we cannot use customers money for other purchases/reasons. If at any point the company went bust then the buyers/sellers money is safe and it would go back to the rightful owner of the money.
We have had this company clients trust account set up from day one to protect our customers money. This account is a secure holding account. We pay the seller monies due from this account when the buyer has signed to accept the vessel. Payment is made from this account to the seller by cheque from the clients Trust Account which is protected guaranteed funds.
